Zsofi Golopencza Named ITA Division II Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Freshman Zsofi Golopencza was named the Division II Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis National Championships in Pensacola, Fla.

Golopencza, ranked No. 5 in singles and No. 3 in doubles in the latest ITA/Wingspanbank.com Division II national rankings, has compiled a 33-3 overall singles and a 31-6 overall doubles record this season in helping the Lady Pirates to a Peach Belt Conference championship, a South Region championship and their seventh consecutive National Championships appearance. She is the third AASU women's tennis player to earn National Rookie of the Year honors by the ITA, joining Sandra van der Aa (1995) and Stephanie Kovacic (2000).

Golopencza and the No. 4-ranked Lady Pirates begin competition in the National Championships on Thursday afternoon against Presbyterian College at 3:30 p.m.
