Seeds Hold Form After Day One Of ITA Women's Southeast Regional

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The top eight singles seeds all advanced, including the top two seeds from host Armstrong Atlantic State, after the first day of action at the 2001 ITA Women's Tennis Southeast Regional at the AASU Tennis Complex on Saturday

AASU sophomore and top seed Zsofi Golopencza advanced to the third round with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Monica Guerrero of Kennesaw State. No. 2 seed and AASU senior Michaela Kratochvilova also advanced to the third round with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Fawn O'Leary of UNC Pembroke. Two other Lady Pirate players advanced to the third round as sophomore Laura Puch defeated Kristen Kern of Francis Marion, 6-4, 6-2, and Abi French of UNC Pembroke, 6-2, 6-1, while freshman Annamaria Forgacs defeated Karin Ramstrom of GC&SU, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to advance.

The No. 3 seed, Jackeline Nieto of Clayton College & State, moved into the third round with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Carolyn Ward of Kennesaw State. No. 4 seed, Loraine Rosmuller of Kennesaw State, picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win over AASU's Alejandra Aguilar to advance as well.

One upset highlighted the first day of doubles action as the Clayton College & State team of Natalia Koulechova and Amina Wojcik knocked off the No. 3 seeded duo of Rosmuller and Eva Andrews of Kennesaw State, 8-5, in second round action. The top-seeded duo of Golopencza and Kratochvilova from AASU defeated the GC&SU team of Kremena Vassileva and Jodie Lobsiger, 8-1, to advance, while the No. 2-seeded duo of Nieto and Nathalia Collantes knocked off the Columbus State duo of Stacy Faurot and Shannon Johnson, 8-0.
