MELBOURNE, Fla. Tech volleyball hosted
South Regional opponent Armstrong Atlantic State University and
fell in three straight games (30-19, 30-18, and 30-20) during
Florida Techs Homecoming weekend.
The match started off well for the Panthers as they were able to match every point with the Pirates through point 14 but couldnt push past the Pirates as they rallied to a 30-19 win in game one.
In game two the Pirates blew past the Panthers and took advantage of the Panthers mistakes taking the game 30-18.
Game three started much like game two but the Panthers settled in and cut the lead to three but couldnt overcome the confident Pirates. Tech continued their efforts never giving up until game point was scored. Tech fell short in game three, losing 30-20.
Techs high offensive performances from the match came from seniors Jenny McCoy (Titusville, Fla.) and Jessie Metzger (Oxford, CT) with nine kills apiece. Freshman, Frankie Brown (Panama City, Fla.) contributed six kills as well for the Panthers. On the night, the Panthers totaled 33 kills against the Pirates out killing them by one with 32.
AASU registered a season-high 17 service aces on the match, the most for a Pirate squad in a single match since 2002.
The Pirates return to action on Sunday as AASU visits No. 2 Tampa at 2:00 p.m.
