Hakansson Named PBC Volleyball Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State junior outside hitter Sofie Hakansson has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon.

A native of Vingaker, Sweden, Hakansson set a school record by hitting .645 (20 kills, zero errors in 31 attempts) in a four-game win over regionally-ranked Florida Tech on Saturday, Oct. 13 - the best performance ever by a Pirate player with more than 30 attempts. Hakansson also notched 16 kills, 23 digs and a career-high seven blocks in a five-game win over regionally-ranked Florida Southern and for the week, hit .348, averaging 3.4 kills, 3.75 digs and 0.9 blocks per game in three matches against teams ranked in the top seven of the South Region.

The honor is the first for Hakansson in her career and also the first PBC Player of the Week honoree for the Pirates this season. AASU, 16-7 overall and 5-2 in the Peach Belt this season, next plays at USC Aiken on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. in a key conference match.
