AASU Volleyball Defeats USC Aiken, 3-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad knocked off USC Aiken, 3-0, in a road Peach Belt Conference match on Wednesday evening. Game scores were: 30-20, 30-23, 30-23.

The Pirates were led by reigning PBC Player of the Week Sofie Hakansson, who registered 12 kills and 13 digs. With her 13 digs, Hakansson passed Sherrene Benedict on the AASU all-time dig chart and now has 801 career digs, second all-time in Pirate history. Junior Sarah Haynes added 10 kills and junior Erin Melius tallied 29 assists for the Pirates, who held the Pacers to just .071 hitting and served 10 aces on the night.

AASU steps out of conference this weekend for action in the 2001 Catawba adidas Invitational in Salisbury, N.C., on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20. The Pirates face the host Catawba Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, then face Slippery Rock at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, AASU takes on Converse at Noon, then faces Tusculum at 4:00 p.m.
