AASU Volleyball Defeats USC Spartanburg, 3-1
SAVANNAH, Ga. The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad wrapped up its 2001 home schedule with a 3-1 win over USC Spartanburg in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the ARC. Game scores were: 32-30, 27-30, 30-24, 30-22.
The Pirates (23-8, 8-3 PBC) got revenge from an earlier-season loss to USC Spartanburg (21-5, 9-3 PBC) with the help of a career-high 18 kills from freshman Darcey Krug and 15 kills and 17 digs from junior Sarah Haynes. Junior Erin Melius added 56 assists and freshman Candice Modlinski notched 13 kills and seven blocks for the Pirates. USC Spartanburg was led by senior Kristin Korte's 18 kills and 17 digs and senior Kim Pitman's 13 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Erin Kopec tallied 50 assists for the Rifles, who are just one-half game ahead of the Pirates in the Peach Belt Conference standings.
AASU next travels to Augusta State for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Jaguars on Tuesday, October 30. USC Spartanburg returns home for a 7:00 p.m. match against non-conference foe Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, October 30.
