AASU Volleyball Captures Fayetteville State Invitational Championship
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The AASU volleyball squad defeated Barton College, 15-6, 15-5,
15-10, to capture the Sixth Annual Fayetteville State University Invitational Tournament title on Saturday afternoon at Capel Arena in Fayetteville, N.C.
Armstrong Atlantic State improved to a perfect 26-0 on the season with three wins on the day, including the tournament championship match. In earlier pool play, the Pirates defeated St. Augustine's, 15-1, 15-6, 15-6, and Benedict, 15-1, 15-2, 15-5, to advance out of Pool B and get to the championship match.
Sophomore middle hitter Kris Bringewatt was named the Tournament MVP, while junior setter Colleen Fitzsimmons was also named to the All-Tournament team. AASU Head Coach Alan Segal was awarded the Most Outstanding Coach honor for the tournament as well.
The Pirates return to Peach Belt Athletic Conference play this Wednesday as they travel to Augusta State on Oct. 13 for a 7 p.m. showdown. AASU's next home match will be Saturday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m. against USC Aiken at the ARC.
