Shelley Weekes Named To Verizon Academic All-District III Squad

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State junior outside hitter Shelley Weekes has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District III Volleyball second team for the 2001 season. The squad, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), honors the top student-athletes each season.

A 5-11 junior from Glencoe, Ontario, Weekes carries a 3.90 grade-point average in health science and is in the middle of the best season of her career. Weekes has compiled 313 kills and 319 digs this year, both season-bests, and is hitting .220 for the Pirates, who are currently competing in the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships' South Regional in Tampa, Fla.

Weekes is the second AASU volleyball player to earn Academic All-District honors for the Pirates - Lindsay Ehlers was a 2000 Verizon Academic All-District III honoree last season.
