AASU Volleyball Defeats Georgia Southwestern, 3-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over non-conference foe Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening in the Pirates' 2001 home opener. Game scores were 30-25, 30-11, 30-20.

Junior Sofie Hakansson led the Pirates offensively with 14 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Sophomore Erin Welty added eight kills while freshman Alexia Piche-Hatch registered an impressive seven kills in eight attempts in one game of action for the Pirates (4-1). Junior Erin Melius recorded 34 assists as AASU hit .336 as a team and notched 12 service aces.

Georgia Southwestern (0-1) was led by Thkisha McCorvey's 12 kills and Angela Buterbaugh's 23 assists in their first match of the 2001 season.

AASU next travels to Dallas, Texas, for the 2001 Texas Woman's Labor Day Classic on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. The Pirates will face Texas Woman's and Central Oklahoma on Friday, then play Angelo State and Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday.
