Dominguez Hills rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take a 3-2 victory
over Armstrong Atlantic State in the Toros' home opener on
Tuesday evening in Dominguez Hills. The win evened the Toros'
record to 3-3 and dropped the Pirates' mark to 4-3 on their
current west coast swing.
The Pirates dropped the first game to the Toros, 30-26, but rallied to take a two games to one lead by winning games two and three, 30-28 and 30-23. The Toros forced a game five by taking the fourth game in convincing fashion, 30-16, as the Pirates hit just .088 in the frame. Game five saw the Toros score the first five straight points en route to a 15-12 game win.
Rindy Vidovich, playing in front of a sizeable crowd of friends and family from nearby San Pedro, led the Pirates with 14 kills, while Christina Flores chipped in 12 kills. Stacy Yates tallied a career-high 37 assists on the evening, while CS Dominguez Hills was led by a quintet of players in double-digit kills, paced by Penina Suddeth's 17 kills.
The Pirates break for a couple of days, then will return to action in the Grand Canyon Cactus Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., on Friday as AASU faces Western Washington and Grand Canyon in tournament action.
