PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad slipped below .500 by dropping two matches on Friday at the Grand Canyon Cactus Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., hosted by Grand Canyon.

The Pirates (4-5) lost to the home-standing Antelopes of Grand Canyon, 30-28, 30-26, 30-24) in the day's last match on Friday. AASU hit just .100 in the match and allowed Grand Canyon nine service aces to go with eight service errors of their own. Traci Knuth led the Pirates with nine kills, while Margaret Thornton tallied 15 assists and Stacy Yates notched 10 digs.

In the first match, AASU fell in four games to Western Washington, 30-20, 28-30, 30-23, 30-21. Knuth again led the Pirates with eight kills, while Margaret Thornton tallied 15 assists for a second straight match and Adriana Miller notched 15 digs. The Pirates hit just .114 for the match but did record nine blocks, led by Leah Schmiedge's six.

The Pirates wrap up action in the Grand Canyon Cactus Classic on Saturday as AASU faces Colorado - Colorado Springs and Northwest Nazarene.
