AASU Volleyball Defeats Augusta State, 3-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball team opened its Peach Belt Conference season with a 3-0 win over Augusta State, making head coach Alan Segal the all-time winningest head coach in AASU volleyball history.

The Pirates (9-4, 1-0 PBC) cruised past the Jaguars (1-17, 0-1 PBC) with the 30-11, 30-25, 30-19 win, giving Segal his 70th head coaching victory for the Pirates in his first 89 games. He passed Carol Meegan on the all-time victory list and his coaching record at AASU, since taking over as head coach in 1999, is an impressive 70-19 (.787).

Three Pirates - juniors Sarah Haynes and Sofie Hakansson and freshman Alexia Piche-Hatch - led AASU on the evening with 10 kills, while junior Erin Melius recorded 30 assists. Avonay Williams led the visiting Jaguars with nine kills and Katie DeGreeff notched 15 assists.

AASU hosts USC Aiken in another Peach Belt Conference matchup on Saturday, September 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Aquatics & Recreation Center (ARC).
