College Volleyball: AASU 3, USC Upstate 0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad held the Peach Belt’s top hitting team to just 35 kills in a 3-0 victory over USC Upstate on Friday evening in Savannah. Game scores were: 30-24, 30-22, 30-19.

The Pirates (8-10, 2-1 PBC) held the Spartans to a .113 hitting percentage in picking up the victory and evening the all-time series with USC Upstate at 20-20. The Spartans (14-5, 2-2 PBC) came into tonight’s match hitting a league-best .279. The Pirates countered by hitting .276 as a team, their second-best hitting percentage in a match this season.

Junior Rindy Vidovich led all players on the night with 16 kills while hitting .414 for the Pirates. Senior Traci Knuth added 10 kills and a .476 percentage, while junior Margaret Thornton tallied 40 assists to go with 14 digs and senior Christina Flores added 16 digs.

USC Upstate was led by Mandy Rupert’s 15 kills and .351 hitting percentage, while Morgan Bucciferro tallied 18 assists and Christina McLean added 17 digs.

AASU returns to action on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Lander, while USC Upstate will be next in action at Augusta State on Wednesday, September 27, for a 7:00 p.m. match.
