College Volleyball: AASU 3, Lander 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State placed four players in double figure kills in picking up a 3-1 college volleyball win over Lander on Saturday afternoon at the ARC. Game scores were: 26-30, 30-23, 30-21, 30-21.

The Pirates (9-10, 3-1 PBC) held the Bearcats (14-6, 0-4 PBC) to just a .011 hitting percentage in remaining perfect against Lander in school history. AASU has not lost to the Bearcats in 18 lifetime meetings between the two schools.

Senior Adriana Miller led all players for the Pirates with 12 kills, while senior Traci Knuth and freshman Gwendolyn Clarke each tallied 11. For Clarke, who came off the bench for the Pirates, it was a season-high effort in kills and in attack percentage (.391). Junior Margaret Thornton tallied 38 assists and tied for the team lead in digs with 17 with senior Christina Flores, who added 17 digs.

Lander was led by a trio of players with 10 kills apiece – Sara Senn, Andrea Griffin and Kerri Sorensen. JJ Edwards registered a match-high 41 assists and Melissa Trippany notched a game-high 20 digs.

The Pirates return to action on Sunday when they travel to No. 5-ranked Florida Southern for a 2:00 p.m. meeting with the Mocs in Lakeland, Fla. Lander is next in action on Wednesday, Sept. 27 when they visit Converse for a 7:00 p.m. match.
