LAKELAND, Fla. With three players
posting double-doubles, fifth-ranked Florida Southern extended
its winning streak to 10 straight matches with a 30-25, 23-30,
30-22, 30-28 win over Armstrong Atlantic Sunday at Jenkins Field
House.
Beverly Stasis recorded her 51st career double-double with 21 kills and 23 digs. She moved into fifth place on FSC's career kills list with 1,344. Ashley Martin matched Stasis' 21 kills and picked up 11 digs, while Danielle Durham had 13 kills and 14 digs for her 19th career double-double. Jordan McAfee delivered 60 assists to go with 11 assists and Jessie Bowman produced 17 digs. Danielle Higginbotham and Stasis were strong at the net for the Moccasins, notching career-highs with eight and seven blocks, respectively.
Armstrong Atlantic receivded double-doubles from Traci Knuth (13 kills, 15 digs) and Adriana Miller (10 kills, 12 digs). Leah Schmiedge led the Pirates with 14 kills, while Knuth and Christina Flores each had 15 digs. Margaret Thornton handed out a career-high 53 assists.
The Moccasins (16-2) overcame a 22-16 deficit to win game one. Martin's kill tied the game at 24-24, then Durham delivered a kill to put FSC 25-24 and the Moccasins led the rest of the way. In game two, the Pirates broke a 21-21 tied with three straight points and did not relinquish the lead. FSC jumped to an early 9-3 lead in game three and led the rest of the game. The Pirates (9-11) closed to 22-20 before the Moccasins tallied seven straight points to put the game on ice. The Moccasins broke a 9-9 tie with back-to-back points in game four and led the rest of the game.
