PEMBROKE, N.C. Despite taking early
leads in each game against Armstrong Atlantic State the Braves of
UNC Pembroke fell to the Pirates 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-19) Friday
night at the English E. Jones Center in Peach Belt Conference
volleyball action.
Pembroke falls to 6-12 on the season overall and now stands at 2-4 in the PBC. AASU is now just one game under .500 on the season at 10-11 overall and is currently tied for second place in the Peach Belt with a 4-1 record.
Abigail Parker had her seven-match double-digit kill streak end on the night as she tallied nine kills in the match to lead UNCP offensively. Andrea Laza led Pembroke in digs with 16 and Lacie Johnson led the team in assists with 12.
For the Pirates, Adriana Miller led the team and the match in kills with 16 on the night, recording an impressive .519 attack percentage in the process. AASU's Traci Knuth notched 12 kills on the night while hitting for a .370 attack percentage.
Knuth also led the Pirates in digs with 15 and Margaret Thornton led the team in assists with 33.
UNCP's Jessica Hartley and AASU's Leah Schmiedge each earned five blocks on the night for their respective teams.
The Black & Gold will travel to Augusta, Ga. to take on Augusta State in another PBC match next Friday, Oct. 6th. AASU faces PBC-leading Francis Marion on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Florence, S.C.
