College Volleyball: AASU 3, USC Aiken 1
SAVANNAH, Ga. The
Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad defeated USC Aiken,
3-1, in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action on Friday evening
in Savannah. Game scores were: 30-23, 30-19, 28-30, 30-20.
The Pirates (12-7, 3-0 PBC) held the usually hot-hitting Pacers (7-9, 2-2 PBC) to a .000 hitting percentage, forcing 44 hitting errors by USC Aiken. AASU, who has now won 16 straight against USC Aiken dating back to 1999, blocked 10 balls as a team and was led offensively by junior Lauren Good, who hit .360 and had a team-high 11 kills. Sophomore Stacia McCoy recorded 14 digs and sophomore Margaret Thornton tallied 24 assists for the Pirates.
USC Aiken did most of its damage behind reigning PBC Player of the Week Mandy Gerolstein, who hit .545 with a match-high 14 kills to go along with five blocks. Rachel Dalitz led all players with 30 assists and Veronica Seidle tallied 19 digs on the evening.
With the win, AASU keeps pace with USC Upstate as the only unbeaten teams in the PBC. USC Aiken slips to .500 in the conference and a tie for third.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, October 1, as AASU takes on Augusta State at 4:00 p.m. in Savannah.
