AASU Hosts 2000 Pirate Volleyball Classic This Weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The AASU volleyball squad plays host to the 2000 AASU Pirate Volleyball Classic this weekend, featuring 14 of the nation's top squads playing 26 matches over three days.

Action begins on Friday, Sept. 8 with West Georgia and Presbyterian playing in the first match at 11:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Sports Center. Matches will continue throughout the day on three courts, finishing with three matches at 7:30 p.m., including the host Pirates against No. 15-ranked Barry University at the Aquatics & Recreation Center on campus.

Saturday's matches begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue all day until 7:30 p.m., when the host Pirates face off against No. 6-ranked University of Tampa. The classic concludes on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. matchup between AASU and Florida Southern.

Other schools scheduled to compete include two other Sunshine State Conference schools (Saint Leo, Florida Southern), two other Gulf South Conference schools (West Alabama, Montevallo), two fellow Peach Belt Conference schools (Francis Marion, USC Spartanburg) and one other school from the South Atlantic Conference (Wingate) and one from the Great Lakes Valley conference (Lewis).

The host Pirates will also face West Georgia at Noon on Saturday. AASU comes into the tournament with a 7-1 mark and is just outside of the AVCA Top 25 poll with 37 votes.
