No. 6 Tampa Dominates In Day Two Pirate Classic Action
SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 6 Tampa knocked off two Peach Belt Conference foes, USC Spartanburg and host Armstrong Atlantic State, to highlight day two action of the 2000 AASU Pirate Volleyball Classic.
The Spartans improved to 7-1 with a 11-15, 15-12, 15-9, 15-5 win over USC Spartanburg and a 15-7, 15-3, 15-2 win over AASU. The host Pirates won their other match earlier in the day, defeating West Georgia, 15-10, 15-6, 15-11.
No. 15-ranked Barry University won two matches on the day, defeating Lewis, 15-6, 15-4, 15-7 and Francis Marion, 11-15, 15-6, 15-8, 15-3. Saint Leo also took two wins on Saturday, knocking off West Alabama, 15-9, 15-10, 15-6, and Presbyterian, 15-12, 15-5, 15-8.
Montevallo also captured two matches, defeating Francis Marion, 15-7, 15-11, 15-10, and winning a marathon match against Florida Southern, 9-15, 5-15, 16-14, 15-7, 15-10. Florida Tech picked up two wins, downing Presbyterian, 15-5, 15-12, 8-15, 15-11, and West Georgia, 15-3, 15-8, 11-15, 15-8.
In other day two action, Lewis defeated Wingate, 15-10, 15-7, 15-11, Florida Southern knocked off West Alabama, 15-10, 15-3, 15-5, and USC Spartanburg downed Wingate, 10-15, 15-1, 15-5, 15-6
Tournament action concludes tomorrow with AASU taking on Florida Southern at 2:00 p.m.
