Women's College Basketball: AASU 80, Mars Hill 69

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. The
Armstrong Atlantic State University Lady Pirates scored an 80-69
win over the Mars Hill College Lady Lions in the opening round of
the Eagle Club Classic at Holt Fieldhouse Friday evening.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first half before Armstrong Atlantics Ashley Mason (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tied the game on a lay-up with 1:47 to play in the first half.
Ashley Duhart (Macon, Ga.) followed up with a pair of free tosses to give the Lady Pirates a 34-32 lead and AASU would not trail the rest of the contest.
Armstrong Atlantic led by as much as 16 points in the second half as they connected on 17 of their 35 attempts (49 percent) from the field.
The Lady Lions trimmed the lead to within nine points in the final minute, but Jasmine Herron (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made a pair of late free throws to keep Armstrong Atlantic on top by double digits.
Alicia Durham (Macon, Ga.) led the Lady Pirates with a career-high 24 points on 5-16 from the floor and 13 rebounds. Herron added 14 points and Mason finished with 10.
Kristi Ferris (Knoxville, Tenn.) led Mars Hill with 18 points, while Allison Schafer (Advance, N.C.) fired 13 and Abby DeBusk (New Tazewell, Tenn.) had 10.
The Lady Lions will face the Lady Knights of St. Andrews Saturday at 4p.m. and Armstrong Atlantic will play Carson-Newman at 6 p.m.
