Women's College Basketball: Florida Southern 82, AASU 60

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball team could not solve Florida Southern's three-time DII All-American Lucresia West as she went for 29 points and 16 rebounds in leading the Mocs to an 82-60 win over the Lady Pirates on Friday afternoon at the 2004 Eckerd College SunSpree Holiday Classic.

The Lady Pirates (3-3) didn't help matters by shooting just 23 from the floor in the first half (7-of-30), falling behind early 19-4 and trailing 43-24 at halftime. West, meanwhile, dominated in the middle, grabbing 15 points and 10 rebounds by intermission.

AASU shot slightly better in the second half, but could not close the gap on the Mocs. The 27 percent shooting for the game was the lowest for an AASU squad since they shot 26.9 percent in a 77-58 loss at Augusta State on Jan. 10, 2004.

West led all players in scoring by hitting 12-of-20 shots from the floor and 5-of-9 shots from the free throw line. Teammate Meghana Saoji chipped in 21 points, while AASU was led by Ramona Wright's 11 points off of the bench. Every AASU player scored at least two points as a quartet of players were next on the scoring honors for the Lady pIrates - Audosha Kelley, Alicia Durham, Jasmine Herron and Briana Milam each had six points apiece.

The Lady Pirates conclude action in the 2004 Eckerd College SunSpree Holiday Classic at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon against host Eckerd College.
