Women's College Basketball: Florida Tech 72, AASU 63

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Florida Tech closed out the game on an 11-1 run, handing the visiting Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball squad its first defeat in a 72-63 win on Tuesday evening at the Clemente Center in Melbourne, Fla.

The Lady Pirates (3-1) trailed by 16 points, 59-43, with 9:16 left in the contest against the Panthers, but AASU went on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to climb back even with Florida Tech as a Tana Griffiths three-pointer with 4:11 remaining tied the score at 61-all.

The Panthers would then hold the Lady Pirates without a field goal the rest of the way, using six points down the stretch from Jennifer Tamilio to pull away for the nine-point win.

Tamilio led all scorers on the night with 22 points, while Danielle Vaughn chipped in 14 for host Florida Tech. AASU placed four players in double figures, led by the PBC Player of the Week Griffiths, who had 14 points. Sarah Brown chipped in 12, while Kaneetha Gordon had her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Nicole Hornage added 10.

AASU returns to action on Tuesday, December 5, as the Pirates host Lenoir-Rhyne at 6:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
