Women's College Basketball: Fayetteville State 84, AASU 66
SAVANNAH, Ga. Fayetteville
State University placed five players in double figures to cruise
to an 84-66 womens college basketball victory over host
Armstrong Atlantic State on Tuesday evening in Savannah.
The Lady Broncos (3-5) handed AASU its third consecutive loss and did so by building a 19-point halftime lead, 46-27. The Lady Pirates (2-4) turned the ball over 22 times for the game and endured a miserable performance from the free throw line, hitting just 19 of 39 shots for 48.7 percent. Fayetteville State capitalized on its opportunities, hitting 21-of-30 free throws, and hit 5-of-11 three-pointers compared to AASUs 3-of-19 three-point shots.
LaToya Thomas led the quintet of Lady Broncos in double figures with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 shooting from the free throw line. Shayla Roberts added 14 points, while Jamara McMillan chipped in 12 and Chelsea Jeter and Rebecca Charles each added 10. AASUs Alicia Durham led all scorers with 18 points all in the second half to go with her eight rebounds. Ashley Mason chipped in 11 points and Kaneetha Gordon added 10 for the Lady Pirates.
Both Fayetteville State and Armstrong Atlantic will next play in the 2005 Chatham Orthopedics Holiday Classic on Friday. The Lady Broncos will face No. 15-ranked Carson-Newman at 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena, while the Lady Pirates will take on Tusculum at 6:00 p.m.
