Women's College Basketball: AASU 72, Florida Tech 56

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State women’s basketball squad shot 52 percent in the first half, including six of nine three-pointers, to build a 16-point halftime lead and cruise to a 72-56 non-conference victory over visiting Florida Tech on Tuesday afternoon in Savannah.

The Lady Pirates (6-4) scored the first 10 points of the game, then stretched that lead to 16, 41-25, at intermission. The Panthers (7-2) hit just 21 percent in the first half, including just one of nine three-point attempts.

After the break, AASU stretched the lead to 25 points at one point as the Panthers could not cut the lead back to single digits. The Pirates finished the game hitting 69.2 percent from three-point range (9-of-13) and hit 48 percent from the floor (24-of-50), while the Panthers managed to hit just 28.2 percent from the floor (20-of-71), including 21.7 percent from three-point range (5-of-23).

Kaneetha Gordon led all players on the day with 14 points, while Tana Griffiths buried four three-pointers for 12 points and Nicole Hornage chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds. Florida Tech was led by Jennifer Tamilio’s 12 points – all in the second half – while Kristin Heminger and Danielle Vaughn each collected 10 points.

AASU returns to action after Christmas as the Lady Pirates visit Fayetteville State on Saturday, December 30, for a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Lady Broncos.
