Women's College Basketball: AASU 72, Fayetteville State 62

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior forward Audosha Kelley registered a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Armstrong Atlantic State women’s basketball team to a 72-62 win over host Fayetteville State on Thursday evening in Fayetteville, N.C.

The Lady Pirates (10-4) got back on the winning track behind Kelley and sophomore Lavonne Thomas, who also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. AASU led by just one at halftime, 34-33, and shot just 25 percent from the floor in the second half, but got to the free throw line an impressive 33 times after intermission and made 21 of the charity tosses to come away with the 10-point victory. Senior Ramona Wright added 11 points and freshman Jasmine Herron chipped in 10 for the Pirates.

Fayetteville State (3-5) was led by Angela Perry’s 20 points and Monica Mason’s 19 points. Despite forcing 35 turnovers by the Lady Pirates, Fayetteville was unable to take advantage, shooting just 20 percent in the second half from the floor (8-of-39) and just 25 percent for the game. The Lady Pirates also out-rebounded the Lady Broncos, 58-40.

AASU opens up Peach Belt Conference play on Wednesday, January 5, as they host GC&SU at 5:30 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
