Lady Pirates Defeat No. 23 Rollins, 65-54
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Senior center Zandrique Cason scored 19 points and junior guard Tasha Washington chipped in 17 points as the Lady Pirates knocked off No. 23-ranked Rollins College, 65-54, on Wednesday evening in Winter Park, Fla.
The win was just the fourth win over a ranked squad for the Lady Pirates (3-0) in the last five seasons and is the first road win over a ranked squad in head coach Roger Hodge's tenure. Junior Tishay Lewis also chipped in eight points and eight steals, while Rollins (6-1) was led by Shannon Pranger's game-high 22 points.
Cason set a school record by reaching double figures in scoring in her 30th consecutive contest, snapping the old record of 29, set by Cindy Pound in 1978-80.
AASU forced 19 first-half turnovers from the Tars and led, 31-24, at halftime. Rollins cut the lead to six, 48-42, with 8:17 remaining but the Lady Pirates scored nine straight points over the next three minutes to put the game out of reach.
AASU returns to action on Saturday, December 7 as they host Clayton State at 5:30 p.m. in its home and Peach Belt Conference opener.
