Women's College Basketball: AASU 75, Presbyterian 68

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University's junior forward Audosha Kelley (Savannah, GA) tallied a season-high 37 points and added nine boards to lead the Lady Pirates to a 75-68 victory over Presbyterian College in women's college basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Ross E. Templeton Center.
Kelley was the only player for AASU to reach double figures as the team shot 53.7% from the field for the game including 63.3% after intermission. PC shot 37.9% from the field, but dominated the backboards to a 40-27 advantage including 20 offensive rebounds. Armstrong tallied 24 assists for the game and forced the Blue Hose into 20 turnovers.
The first half was closely contested until the Blue Hose went on a 13-3 run to pull ahead 23-14 at the 5:31 mark on a layup by junior forward Anna Sheppard (Norcross, GA). Armstrong fought back and went on a 15-2 run to close the half and take a 29-25 lead at halftime.
AASU opened the second half on a 16-10 run to push the lead to double figures at 47-35 at the 14:13 mark on a jumper by senior center Ramona Wright (Clyo, GA). The lead increased to 15 points at 63-48 on a three-pointer by Kelley at the 8:23 mark, but the Blue Hose fought back trimmed the lead to under double figures at 75-68 on a jumper by junior guard Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, SC) as time expired.
The Lady Pirates improve to 6-3 on the season while the Blue Hose fall to 1-7 on the year. The 37 points scored by Kelley is the most scored by an AASU player since Demetria McClouden scored 43 points in a 78-72 win over Florida Tech on Dec. 3, 1998.
PC was led by Sheppard who tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds, her second double-double of the season. Wessinger chipped in 15 points and five boards while freshman guard Amy Jones (Warthen, GA) came off the bench to score 11 points and add three steals. Junior center Cameron Cook (Greensboro, NC) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points and four boards.
The Lady Pirates return to action on Monday, December 13 as they host Fayetteville State University at 7:00 pm. The Blue Hose return to action on Tuesday, December 14 as they play host to the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University at 7:00 pm.
