JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Latisha Perry sunk a crucial jump shot in the final seconds of tonights UNF womens basketball game against Armstrong Atlantic State to give the Lady Ospreys their 12th consecutive at-home win this season, 62-61.
UNF (18-3, 7-3 PBC) pulled down 44 rebounds and had 14 steals, while holding Armstrong Atlantic (17-5, 8-3 PBC) to a 36.4 shooting percentage from the field. Not only did Perry shoot the game winning basket, but she also led UNF and broke her career high with 23 points. ASSUs Tasha Washington led all players as she also broke three of her own personal records tonight, with 34 points, 11 rebounds and five three-pointers. Skye Barber had a double-double game with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Cecilia Woolfolk had 10 points.
The Lady Ospreys took off in the first half developing a fast lead, and a made layup by Kim Smith brought the score to 26-15. AASU turned the game around, however, and by the end of the first half, the Lady Pirates led 29-28.
The remainder of the game was a nail biter, as the teams volleyed back and forth for the lead. With three minutes left, AASU led 59-58. A turnover by Briana Milam gave UNF possession, and Woolfolk took the ball to the hoop making a layup. Perry fouled however, and Washington took full advantage and made both free throws. After an AASU timeout, Perry sank the games last shot, bring the score to 62-61. The Lady Pirates had an opportunity to win the game, but the ball was fumbled and grabbed by Barber, who held it until the buzzer sounded.
AASU is next in action at Columbus State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
