No. 25-Ranked Lady Pirates Down
Lady Ospreys,
First Win Over UNF In Jacksonville In School History
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Tishay Lewis led a second-half charge as the No. 25-ranked Lady Pirates defeated the North Florida Lady Ospreys, 69-58, in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action at UNF Arena on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Pirates trailed 44-40 with 14:05 remaining in the second half, but proceded to go on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take charge of the contest, keyed by two steals and four points from Lewis and two baskets from senior Anita Griffin. AASU (19-3, 12-2 PBC) then held the Lady Ospreys to just five of 19 field goals the rest of the way to come away with their first victory ever over UNF in Jacksonville.
Lewis paced all players with her fifth
straight double-double, scoring 32 points and collecting 11
rebounds. The back-to-back PBC Player of the Week hit 10-of-17
shots from the floor, including
3-of-5 three-pointers, and 9-of-12 shots from the free throw
line, as well as adding seven steals and four blocked shots.
Junior Tasha Washington added 12 points as the Lady Pirates
picked up their
sixth straight win and also set a new school record for the most
Peach Belt Conference wins in a season with 12.
North Florida (13-9, 8-6 PBC) was led by Skye Barber, who collected 20 points and 10 rebounds on the evening.
AASU will be next in action on Saturday, February 15, as they travel to Morrow, Ga., to take on Clayton College & State University at 7:30 p.m.
