Volleyball (11-6 Overall, 3-2 Peach Belt)

The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball team dropped two straight matches to North Florida and USC Spartanburg before rebounding with a win at Lander to finish 1-2 on the week.

The Pirates lost a 30-19, 30-13, 30-28 match to the visiting Ospreys of North Florida on Wednesday evening, suffering their first PBC loss of the year. Junior Erin Melius recorded 23 assists on the evening, including her 3,000th career assist, becoming the first AASU player to reach that plateau.

On Friday evening, the Pirates traveled to Spartanburg, S.C., and dropped a 30-26, 30-26, 30-27 match to the Rifles of USC Spartanburg, despite freshman Candice Modlinski's 13 kills and Sarah Haynes' 11 kills and 17 digs.

AASU rebounded on Saturday afternoon with a 30-23, 30-18, 30-25 win at Lander. Melius recorded 29 assists and 16 digs while Hakansson notched eight kills and 15 digs.

This week, the Pirates host Valdosta State in a non-conference matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3. AASU then hosts Francis Marion on Friday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. and UNC Pembroke on Saturday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m. in conference play.

Women's Tennis

The Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team hosted the ITA Southeast Regional this weekend and sophomore Zsofi Golopencza and senior Michaela Kratochvilova, the No. 1 seed in the doubles bracket, captured the doubles title with an 8-0 win over the No. 2-seeded team of Nathalia Collantes and Jackeline Nieto of Clayton College & State.

Golopencza, also the No. 1 seed in singles, advanced to the singles final without dropping a game, recording 6-0, 6-0 wins over Monica Guerrero of Kennesaw State, Fernanda Zurita of Clayton College & State, Shannon Spencer of Columbus State and Collantes of Clayton College & State. She will face AASU teammate Annamaria Forgacs in the final on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Forgacs advanced to the final with a 6-4, 6-2 semifinal win over No. 2 seed and fellow Pirate Michaela Kratochvilova on Monday.

Golopencza and Kratochvilova will advance to the ITA Small College National Championships in Dallas, Texas, on October 19-21, to compete in doubles play. The winner of the Golopencza/Forgacs match will also advance to the ITA Nationals.

Men's Tennis

The Pirate men's tennis team returns to action this weekend as it hosts the ITA Southeast Regional at the AASU Tennis Complex from Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8 .

Golf

The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team, coming off of a seventh place finish at the Johnny Palmer/Old North State Invitational two weeks ago, will be in action this coming week at the October 7-9 at the Presbyterian College Intercollegiate in Clinton, S.C.
