Soccer (12-3-1 Overall, 6-1-1 Peach Belt Conference, No. 13 NSCAA DII Top 25)
The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer squad wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament with a 6-0 win over Lander on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates hosted the Bearcats in a matchup of the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the league standings, but this one would be all AASU as two scores in the first eight minutes propelled the home team to the win. Lander would not record a shot in the match’s first 43 minutes and AASU played all three goalkeepers including giving a start to senior Tarra Kohler in the shutout win.
Kristin Savoy started the scoring in the seventh minute, then Lynsdi Stricklen tallied a goal in her seventh consecutive match in the eighth minute. Kristin Burton halted her own three-match scoreless streak with a goal in the 38th minute, then Kelli Bahr closed out the first-half scoring with a goal in the 44th minute.
After halftime, Savoy and Burton would each add goals as the Pirates would outshoot the Bearcats, 24-13, for the match.
The Pirates will host North Georgia in a first-round PBC Tournament match on Tuesday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m. The winner advances to the PBC Tournament Final Four, which will take place at the highest seed remaining on Friday, November 2, with the Championship Match taking place on Sunday, November 4.
Volleyball (16-17 Overall, 5-3 Peach Belt Conference)
The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball team climbed to within a game of .500 with two wins in Augusta on the week.
The Pirates got three points into their match with Augusta State on Friday night, when a power outage halted the game. Resumed on Saturday morning, AASU outlasted Augusta State in five games, winning 15-13 in game five and earning a split of the season series. Gwen Clarke notched 19 kills to lead the Pirates, while Nicole Yates tallied 31 digs and Hannah Segebart collected 52 assists.
AASU then took on St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon and won in three over the Knights. The Pirates recorded 10 blocks as a team and got eight kills apiece from Leah Kettelson and Budd, while Yates added 25 digs and Hannah Segebart notched 27 assists.
With a win on Friday, November 2 at Lander, the Pirates can wrap up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PBC Championships. AASU also has a date with PBC-leading USC Aiken on Saturday, November 3, in its final match of the season.
