Men's Basketball (0-2 Overall, 0-0 Peach Belt)

The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team lost at No. 15-ranked Wingate on Saturday afternoon, 73-59, to drop to 0-2 on the young season.

The Pirates trailed by 11 at halftime and were down by 28 in the second half, but held the Bulldogs to just one basket in the final eight minutes. AASU got to within 11 points with 1:23 remaining in the game, but could not get any closer down the stretch. Junior Lamarr Chears led the Pirates with 13 points off the bench, while junior Dave Pisarcik added 11 points.

AASU opens Peach Belt Conference play this week with two games. The Pirates travel to Francis Marion for a 7:30 p.m. meeting with the Patriots on Wed., Nov. 28, then AASU opens its home season on Sat., Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. against Lander.

Women's Basketball (0-4 Overall, 0-0 Peach Belt)

The Lady Pirates dropped two games over Thanksgiving to tough opponents, dropping AASU to 0-4 on the season.

AASU traveled to Fort Valley State on Wednesday and lost to the Lady Wildcats, 53-47, dropping the Lady Pirates to 0-10 overall against FVSU. In the first meeting between the two schools since 1988, junior Zandrique Cason scored 20 points and recorded a career-high 24 rebounds, but it was not enough for the Lady Pirates to overcome 38 turnovers. Junior Shaletra Hodge added nine points and 15 rebounds for AASU.

The Lady Pirates continued their Thanksgiving road trip, traveling to Thibodaux, La., to face Division I Nicholls State on Saturday, losing a 62-51 decision to the Lady Colonels. Cason again led the Lady Pirates with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Shaletra Hodge chipped in 10 points. The game was the first ever played by AASU in the state of Louisiana and was the first time the Lady Pirates had faced a DI opponent in five years, dating back to 1996-97.

AASU opens Peach Belt Conference play this week with two games. The Lady Pirates travel to No. 18-ranked Francis Marion for a 5:30 p.m. meeting with the Lady Patriots on Wed., Nov. 28, then AASU opens its home season on Sat., Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. against Lander.

Men's Golf

Armstrong Atlantic State University shot a final-round 302 to capture the 2001 Flagler College Invitational title, competed at the Ponce de Leon Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla.

The Pirates finished with a two-day total of 609 and the win is the Pirates' first since AASU reinstated men's golf as an intercollegiate sport in 2000-2001.

Sophomore Thomas Whittaker paced the Pirates individually, shooting a five-over-par 149 total and finishing second individually. Freshman Jonathan Cox finished with a seven-over-par 151 total, while sophomore Clay Best finished with a 10-over-par 154 total. Freshman Ashley Loyd finished with an 11-over-par 155 score, while freshman Lee Clarke rounded out the Pirates' scoring with a 19-over-par 163 total.

AASU's fall season is complete and the Pirates will host their next tournament action on February 25-26 in the AASU Southbridge Invitational at Southbridge Golf Club.
