Men's Basketball (4-2 Overall)

The AASU men's basketball team picked up two wins on the week, improving to 4-2 overall and running its winning streak to three games on the young season.

Tuesday evening, the Pirates gave head coach Griff Mills his first-ever win at Valdosta State, a 63-51 victory over the Blazers in Valdosta, Ga. Senior Robert Campbell led all scorers with 15 points and picked up two steals on the evening, passing Pirate great Ike Williams into first place on the AASU all-time steals chart. David Koncul added 14 points and Cyrille Mainnemarre chipped in 10 points.

On Friday, the Pirates faced Clark Atlanta and held on for a 93-88 victory against the Panthers. The Pirates hit an amazing two-thirds of their shots from the field (36-of-54, 66.7 percent) and had six players score in double figures, led by Mainnemarre's 17 points. Tavares Brown chipped in 16 points off of the bench and Campbell and Koncul each scored 15 points for AASU.

This week, the Pirates host two home contests, on Wed., Nov. 29 against Presbyterian and on Sat., Dec. 2 against cross-town rival Savannah State.

Women's Basketball (1-3 Overall)

The AASU women's basketball team played in the Catawba College All Sport Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend, dropping two games to host Catawba and Livingstone.

Friday evening, the Lady Pirates tied a school record by committing 40 turnovers in a 75-63 loss to the host Lady Indians. Sophomore Zandrique Cason continued her strong play for the Lady Pirates, scoring a game-high 22 points and adding 12 rebounds while freshman guard Nicole Joffrion came off the bench to score 16 points.

On Saturday, the Lady Pirates again were plagued by turnovers, committing 31 in a 66-48 loss to Livingstone. Cason recorded her fourth straight double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds while senior Michelle Hubbard notched a game-high 17 points.

Cason was the Lady Pirates' only representative on the All-Tournament Squad.

This week, the Lady Pirates play one game, traveling to Atlanta, Ga., for a 6:00 p.m. contest against Spelman on Wed., Nov. 29.
