The Pirate men's basketball squad made it two in a row with a 74-71 victory on Saturday afternoon at Columbus State to get back to over .500 in the Peach Belt Athletic Conference.
Junior Robert Campbell had the hot hand for the Pirates again, scoring a season-high 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor and dishing out nine assists in the victory. Three other Pirates reached double figures in scoring David Koncul (12), Tavares Brown (11) and Cyrille Mainnemarre (10).
Campbell paces the Pirate offense, averaging 12.9 points per game, and also is averaging 5.3 assists per game. Junior Greg Favors continues to lead AASU in rebounding, averaging 8.9 per game, and both Koncul and Mick Jordan are shooting 42.3 percent from three-point range (33 of 78) on the year.
This week, coach Mills' squad hosts the University of North Florida at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, then travels to No. 8-ranked Georgia College & State on Saturday, Jan. 22, for a 7:30 p.m. meeting.

Lynn Jarrett's women's hoops squad lost, 75-56, at Columbus State on Saturday in the Lady Pirates' only action of the week.
The Lady Pirates outshot the Lady Cougars, but turned the ball over 29 times and shot 21 less free throws than Columbus State. Sophomore Lexie Martin led AASU in scoring with just nine points, the first time this season a Lady Pirate player has failed to reach double digit scoring.
Freshman Duanda Ball continues to pace the Lady Pirates in scoring on the season, averaging 11.5 points per game. Sophomore Lori Green leads in rebounding, averaging 5.7 boards per game, and Lexie Martin leads in assists, dishing out 2.9 per game.
