Cross Country
The AASU women's and men's cross country teams finished ninth and sixth, respectively, at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals in Spartanburg, S.C., on Saturday morning.
Three Pirate runners earned All-Region honors on the day. Junior Nikki Garland and sophomore Melanie Clarke finished fifth and sixth in the race to capture spots on the All-Region teams. Garland finished the 6,000 meter course in a time of 22:38.41 and Clarke finished in a time of 22:51.32.
Freshman Paul McRae finished 13th overall to earn All-Region honors, finishing the 10,000 meter course in a time of 33:22.30.
The cross country runners have completed their season and many will run in the upcoming track and field season in the spring.
Volleyball (34-3 overall, 11-2 PBAC)
The AASU volleyball squad won its final two regular season home matches on the week, defeating UNC Pembroke, 3-0, and Francis Marion, 3-0.
The Pirates took over second place in the Peach Belt with their win over Francis Marion and also avenged an earlier-season loss to the Patriots – a loss that snapped AASU's school-record 29-match winning streak.
Freshman Lindsay Ehlers hit .414 with 16 kills in the two games and freshman Erin Melius recorded 68 assists in AASU's victories. Ehlers was also named the Edward Jones Investments/AASU Blue Chip Athlete of the Month for October in a ceremony during the Francis Marion match.
The Pirates travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face the PBAC-leading North Florida Ospreys on Wed., Nov. 10 at 7 p.m., then head to Greenwood, S.C., for the Peach Belt Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 11-13.
