Men's Basketball (4-5 Overall; 1-0 PBAC)

The Pirate men's basketball squad split two meetings on the week, defeating Belmont Abbey, 71-53, but losing to Lenoir-Rhyne, 69-62, over the weekend.

Sophomore Mick Jordan hit five-of-five three-pointers for a game-high 17 points and three other Pirates scored in double digits as AASU won its second game in a row and improved to 4-4 on the year with an 18-point win over the Crusaders on Friday evening. Robert Campbell added 13 points and juniors Greg Favors and Tavares Brown chipped in 12 apiece.

Saturday, the Pirates watched Lenoir-Rhyne overcome a three-point halftime deficit and shoot a blistering 65 percent from the floor in the second half to pick up the seven point win. All five of the Pirates' losses this season have been by seven points or less. David Koncul led AASU with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Greg Favors turned in his fifth-straight 10+ point performance with 10 points against the Bears.

This week, coach Mills' squad travels to College of Charleston for a matchup with the Division I Cougars on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The team breaks for Christmas holidays, then returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 30 for an 8:00 p.m. matchup with Valdosta State.

Women's Basketball (3-7 Overall; 0-1 PBAC)

Lynn Jarrett's women's hoops squad split two meetings at the Eckerd College Holiday Classic over the weekend, snapping a five-game losing streak with a 74-57 win over Eckerd, but falling to No. 16-ranked Rollins College, 89-66.

Duanda Ball hit seven-of-14 shots from the field, including four-of-eight three-pointers, for a game-high 19 points in the Lady Pirates' win over Eckerd. Sonya Mintz added 16 points and Dorthell Little chipped in 10 as AASU registered a season-low for turnovers, just committing 10.

Saturday, the Lady Pirates faced their third nationally-ranked team of the season and trailed by just two at halftime, 37-35, but the Lady Tars took control in the second half and cruised to the 23-point win. Duanda Ball again led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 17 points, while Dorthell Little chipped in 13 points and Shawnte Craig added 10. AASU shot well from the free throw line in the game, hitting 19-of-22 foul shots (86.4 percent).

AASU breaks for Christmas, then returns home for its first contest at Alumni Arena in well over a month, hosting Catawba College on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 2:00 p.m.
