Men’s Basketball (3-2 Overall, 1-1 Peach Belt Conference)
The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team opened Peach Belt Conference play by splitting two league games on the week. AASU opened up its home season with an 88-75 win over North Georgia on Wednesday, but fell at USC Aiken, 87-82, on the road on Saturday.

The Pirates held North Georgia to just 3-of-21 from beyond the arc in picking up a 12-point win over the Saints on Wednesday. Senior Jamaal Galloway led the Pirates with 21 points on 8-of-13 shots from the floor, including 4-of-9 three-pointers, while senior William Kane notched a career-high 16 assists. AASU then traveled to USC Aiken and fell to the Pacers by five. Corey Johnson led a quartet of Pirates in double figures with 23 points.

AASU is averaging 78.8 points per game, its highest scoring output in the Jeff Burkhamer era. William Kane’s 22 assists on the week moved him ahead of Tyrone Green into ninth place on the AASU all-time assist chart with 286 and his 16 assists against the Saints were the most for an AASU player in the PBC era. The school record of 20 was set by Foy Ballance at Flagler on 11/25/78.

The Pirates break for final exams before their next games on Dec. 18 and 19 in the Chatham Orthopedics Holiday Classic.

Women’s Basketball (4-2 Overall, 1-1 Peach Belt Conference)
The AASU women's basketball split two games in Peach Belt Conference play this week.

Head coach Roger Hodge improved to 5-3 in league openers as the Pirates edged North Georgia on Wednesday, 63-62. AASU did not hold a lead in the game until 0.2 seconds left, when a Jasmine Herron free throw provided the deciding point. Kaneetha Gordon led AASU with 22 points, while junior Alandris Griffin recorded her second double-double in the last three games with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Saturday, the Lady Pirates visited No. 20 USC Aiken and fell to the Lady Pacers, 74-68. Gordon again led the Lady Pirates with 19 points, while Lacey Willis added 15 points and Alandris Griffin chipped in 14 points.

Gordon recently became the ninth player in AASU history to reach the 1,000 point plateau. The Riceboro, Ga., native has 1,046 points in her career and is 18 points behind former teammate Tasha Washington (1,064, 2002-04) for eighth on the all-time AASU chart.

The Lady Pirates will play their first NCAA Division I opponent in more than six years on Wednesday as AASU hosts North Carolina Central at 7:00 p.m. AASU’s last game against a DI opponent came on November 24, 2001, as AASU played at Nicholls State and lost, 62-51.
