Men's Basketball (2-3 Overall; 0-0 PBAC)

The Pirate men's basketball dropped a couple of road games on the week, losing at Fort Valley State, 65-61, and at Savannah State in overtime, 75-71.

Down by three points with less than a minute remaining, Savannah State's Darius Kelly hit a three-pointer to tie the game and send it to overtime, where the Tigers came away with a 75-71 victory on Saturday evening. Turnovers once again plagued the Pirates as AASU gave the ball away 33 times in the contest. Junior Greg Favors put together a solid game, scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Tavares Brown added 15 points and Ronald Thompson scored 14 points for the Pirates, who have dropped three straight in their rivalry with Savannah State.

On Wednesday evening, the Pirates shot 67 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range but an opportunistic Fort Valley State squad came away with a four-point victory. The Wildcats thrived on the Pirates' generosity, forcing 40 turnovers. Fort Valley State took 24 more shots than the Pirates and held AASU to just one shot from the field in the first five minutes. Still, the outside shooting of David Koncul (4-4, 2-2 threes) and the inside play of Ronald Thompson (12 points, nine rebounds) and Bart Westgeest (10 points) kept the Pirates in it. AASU led by one with 56 seconds remaining, but Juan McGee's three-pointer with 26 ticks left on the clock gave Fort Valley the win.

This week, coach Mills' squad hosts Fort Valley State on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m., then the Pirates hit the road for their PBAC opener at Kennesaw State on Sat., Dec. 11 at 4 p.m.

Women's Basketball (2-5 Overall; 0-0 PBAC)

Lynn Jarrett's women's hoops squad lost two games away from AASU on the week, losing to Morris College, 70-67, and to Savannah State, 64-58.

Saturday, the Lady Pirates shot just 38 percent and could not overcome a seven-point Savannah State halftime lead, losing to the Lady Tigers. Freshman Duanda Ball led the way for the Lady Pirates with 17 points, while sophomore Lexie Martin chipped in 11.

Wednesday evening, the Lady Pirates shot 53 percent from the field against Morris but couldn't overcome 28 turnovers as the Lady Hornets outscored AASU down the stretch for a three-point win. Sophomore Lori Green led the Lady Pirates with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while freshman Duanda Ball chipped in 13 points.

AASU opens up its conference slate on Sat., Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. against Kennesaw State in a men's/women's doubleheader.
