Men’s Basketball (8-2 Overall, 2-1 Peach Belt Conference)
The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team stretched its current home win streak to nine with a 71-48 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday evening at Alumni Arena.

The Pirates’ last loss at home came to the same Braves last season – a 62-60 loss on January 27, 2007. AASU held an eight-point lead at halftime, 28-20, but opened the half on a 9-4 run to take charge of the contest and go on to the victory. The win was also the fifth straight for the Pirates as AASU improved to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the PBC.

Junior T.T. Hall led the Pirates with 14 points off the bench, while senior Jamaal Galloway collected 12 points and senior Franchot Brown came off the bench to record 10 points and nine rebounds. Senior point guard William Kane dished out nine assists with just one turnover.

Kane continues to lead the PBC in assists, averaging 8.9 per game, as well as assistn/turnover ratio at 3.07. As a team, the Pirates have the second-best scoring defense in the league, allowing just 64.6 points per game, and opponents are shooting just 27.5 percent from three-point range, tops in the PBC.

AASU embarks on its first road trip of 2008 with a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt matchup at Georgia Southwestern State on Wednesday, January 9. The Pirates then return home to face No. 12 Augusta State on Saturday, January 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Women’s Basketball (8-2 Overall, 2-1 Peach Belt Conference)
The AASU women's basketball squad opened up 2008 with a hard-fought 61-58 win over visiting UNC Pembroke on Saturday at Alumni Arena.

The Lady Pirates led the Lady Braves by seven at halftime, 27-20, and extended that lead to as many as 13 in the second half, then held off a late charge by UNC Pembroke for the victory.

Junior guard Lindsey Holmes hit five three-pointers for a team-high 15 points, while junior Lacey Willis chipped in 11 points and senior Kaneetha Gordon finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Gordon has now collected 937 rebounds in her career, just 26 shy of the school record of 936, set by Gigi Gibson in 1980-84. The leading rebounder in the PBC this season, Gordon is also on pace to become just the fourth player in PBC history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career – and the first to do so since Skye Barber of UNF in 2004.

AASU travels to Americus, Ga., for a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt matchup with Georgia Southwestern State on Wednesday, January 9. The Lady Pirates then return home to face Augusta State on Saturday, January 12, at 7:30 p.m.
