Baseball (15-7 Overall, 3-5 Peach Belt Conference)

The Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad won four games in the Savannah Invitational on the week, but dropped a doubleheader at Augusta State after weather pushed back the start of the league series in Augusta.

The Pirates began the week by pounding out 24 hits, including 11 extra-base hits, in a 20-2 win over California (Pa.) on Monday. AASU followed that up with a 5-2 win over Kutztown on Tuesday, then defeated Concord, 8-3, on Wednesday and Fairmont State, 5-3, on Thursday.

AASU then traveled to Augusta State for a three-game set with the Jaguars. The Pirates rallied from an 8-5 deficit in game one on Sunday with three runs in the eighth inning, tying the contest at 8-8, but the Jaguars pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch that scored a runner from second base, giving ASU the 9-8 victory.

The Jaguars completed the doubleheader sweep in the nightcap, winning 10-3. The third game will be played on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at ASU’s Jaguar Field.

The Pirates will then travel to Americus, Ga., for a three-game set with Georgia Southwestern State, beginning on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. contest. The series wraps up with a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.

Softball (19-12 Overall, 6-2 Peach Belt Conference)

 The Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad went 4-2 on the week, dropping a home doubleheader to No. 10-ranked Kutztown on Monday, but rebounding to win four games in the SCAD Spring Break Smash Hit Invitational.

The Pirates lost two to the No. 10-ranked Golden Bears, 5-0 and 7-4, on Monday, slipping AASU’s record against ranked teams to 3-3 this season.

AASU rebounded with two wins on Tuesday as the Pirates pounded Chowan, 19-2, and defeated West Chester, 5-1.

The winning continued on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over West Liberty State and a 6-2 win over West Chester.

On the week, Erin Billingsley hit .526 to lead the Pirates, while Ashley Bain hit her 20th career home run in the win over Chowan, becoming just the fifth player in school history to record 20+ career home runs.

The Pirates host North Georgia on Monday in Peach Belt Conference action, then host Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday and visit Columbus State for a PBC doubleheader on Saturday.

Men’s Golf

The Armstrong Atlatnic State men's golf team visits Jacksonville State for the Grubmart Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at the Silver Lakes Golf Club in Jacksonville, Ala.

Men’s Tennis (16-0 Overall, 7-0 Peach Belt Conference, No. 1 ITA DII National Rankings)

The top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State men’s tennis team continued its undefeated start to the 2008 season by winning four matches on the week, improving to 16-0 overall.

The Pirates took to the court for the first time sporting its No. 1 national ranking on Thursday and blanked No. 28-ranked Kutztown, 9-0. AASU then hosted North Georgia on Friday and defeated the Saints, 9-0, to clinch a share of its fourth straight Peach Belt Conference regular season title. AASU will host Francis Marion on April 12 for a chance to win the title outright.

AASU then traveled to Florida and faced No. 3-ranked (NAIA) Embry-Riddle on Saturday and edged the Eagles, 5-4. The Pirates won two of three doubles matches, then split the six singles matches, winning at 4-6 singles.

AASU wrapped up the week with a 7-2 win over No. 5-ranked Drury in Orlando, Fla. The Pirates have now defeated the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5-ranked teams in Division II.

The Pirates have the week off as they prepare for the Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Alabama, on March 28-30.

Women’s Tennis (16-0 Overall, 9-0 Peach Belt Conference, No. 2 ITA DII National Rankings)

 The No. 2-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team ran its consecutive regular season match win streak to 106 with three victories on the week, improving to 16-0 overall on the season.

The Lady Pirates began the week with a 9-0 win over Kutztown on Thursday, then clinched a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season title with a 9-0 blanking of North Georgia. AASU stretched its PBC winning streak to 50,  dating back to 2003, and will have a shot to win the league title outright against Francis Marion on April 12.

The Lady Pirates wrapped up the week with a 9-0 win over No. 8-ranked (NAIA) Embry-Riddle on Saturday in Daytona Beach.

AASU have the week off as they prepare for the Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Alabama, on March 28-30.
