Baseball (22-11 Overall, 10-8 Peach Belt Conference, No. 24 Collegiate Baseball Top 25)

The Pirates traveled to No. 13-ranked USC Aiken and took one out of three from the Pacers in Peach Belt Conference action over the weekend.

AASU built a 10-2 lead by the sixth inning of Friday’s first game, then held on for a 10-7 victory over the Pacers. Joey Davis launched a two-run home run in support of Cody Walden, who picked up the victory, scattering 12 hits and giving up five runs in 7 1/3 innings.

Rains pushed back Saturday’s doubleheader to Sunday, where USC Aiken made a couple of plays late to come away with the doubleheader sweep. AASU led game one of Sunday’s doubleheader, 5-4, in the bottom of the ninth, but a two-out RBI double by Ken Raborn tied the game, sending it into extra innings, where USC Aiken pulled out a 6-5 win in 11 innings. In game two, the Pirates had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth with one out, trailing 4-3, but reliever Houston Taylor got out of the jam with a double play ball to preserve the win.

Michael Price went 4-for-9 in the doubleheader, while Josh Wilson had two hits and three RBI in game two, driving in all of the Pirates’ runs.

This week, the Pirates host Pfeiffer on Tuesday, April 8, at 2:30 p.m., then host North Georgia in a PBC series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon and concluding with a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Softball (22-17 Overall, 9-5 Peach Belt Conference)

The Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at No. 17 GCSU on Wednesday in the Pirates’ only action of the week.

The Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one thanks to Jessica Strong's two-RBI double, but the Bobcats took a 3-2 lead with a single run in the first and a pair of runs in the second. AASU took the lead to stay on an error and a Tori Richter RBI single in the third. Jacquie Crane limited GCSU to four hits and one earned run, picking up the victory.

AASU scored single runs in the first and third innings of game two on an RBI double by Ashley Bain and a suicide squeeze by Sam Floyd, building a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats rallied for the win in the seventh thanks to an error, two bases-loaded walks and a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Swanson.

The Pirates’ scheduled Saturday doubleheader against Augusta State was washed out and will be played on Monday at 2:00 p.m. AASU then wraps up its regular season with a Saturday doubleheader against No. 6-ranked Francis Marion at 2:00 p.m.
