The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad went 1-2 over the weekend, hosting the AASU/Chatham Orthopedics Associates Pirate Volleyball Classic.

The Pirates dropped a three-game match to Florida Southern, 30-26, 30-24, 30-26, on Friday evening. Junior middle hitter Sarah Haynes recorded seven kills, including her 700th career kill for the Pirates, becoming only the fifth player in school history to reach that plateau.

AASU rebounded on Saturday to defeat Saint Leo, 30-19, 23-30, 30-25, 30-27, giving head coach Alan Segal his 69th career victory at AASU, tying him for the most in school history. Coach Segal's career record now stands at 69-19 (.784).

The Pirates then hosted No. 4-ranked North Alabama on Saturday evening and came up short to the Lions, 30-28, 30-23, 30-21, but played well as Haynes recorded 14 kills and junior outside hitter Sofie Hakansson recorded 13 kills. Both Haynes and Hakansson were named to the All-Classic Team.

AASU hosts two more nationally-ranked opponents this weekend at the ARC as No. 10-ranked Barry University comes to Savannah to face the Pirates on Saturday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m. and No. 12-ranked Tampa plays on Sunday, September 16 at 4:00 p.m.
