College Soccer: No. 18 Columbus State 2, No. 8 AASU 1
COLUMBUS, Ga. (October 3) Stephanie Parrish's second goal of the match in the 83rd minute snapped a 1-all tie and gave host Columbus State a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Armstrong Atlantic on Wednesday evening.
The No. 8-ranked Pirates (7-2-1, 3-1-1 PBC) and the No. 18-ranked Cougars (9-3-1, 4-0 PBC) played a defensive first 45 minutes, resulting in a scoreless tie at halftime. Parrish was the first to break through when she put the ball into the net in the 63rd minute off of an indirect kick, giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
Junior Lyndsi Stricklen equalized for the Pirates just eight minutes later, delivering her second goal of the season to tie things up at 1-all. But Parrish put the Cougars back up for good with her second goal, assisted by Hannah Ospina, and Columbus State held on for the win.
The Cougars outshot the Pirates, 15-12, as freshman Tracey Mitchell made nine saves in goal for the Pirates while CSU goalkeeper Monica Sanchez made five. AASU returns to action on Saturday, October 6, as the Pirates host Newberry in a key South Atlantic Region matchup at 3:00 p.m.
