Neves banged home the "golden goal" five
minutes into overtime as Armstrong Atlantic defeated Newberry,
4-3, on Saturday afternoon in Newberry, N.C.
Neves finished a pass from Kristin Burton for the game-winner in the 95th minute, capping a late rally that saw the Pirates (11-2) force overtime in the 84th minute on Jessica Chipple's low driving shot just outside the box. Newberry (6-6-2) overcame a 2-1 lead with two second-half goals by Inga Woiwode and Lindsey Landgrebe to take the 3-2 lead.
Woiwode put the Indians on top to begin the game with her first goal, but the Pirates went into intermission with the lead thanks to goals from Burton and Kristin Savoy. AASU outshot the Indians by just one, 15-14, and junior Tarra Kohler made seven saves in goal to pick up the win for the Pirates.
AASU returns to action at No. 4-ranked Tusculum on Monday, October 9, at 4:00 p.m.
