SAVANNAH, Ga. (August 16) – The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer team has been picked to finish second in a preseason poll of the league's coaches, released today by the Peach Belt Conference.

The third-year Pirates received two first-place votes and 57 points overall, coming in behind Columbus State, who was picked to defend its PBC regular season title with six first place votes and 62 points overall. Clayton State was picked to finish third with one first-place vote and 48 points, followed by GCSU, North Georgia, UNC Pembroke, USC Aiken, Lander and Georgia Southwestern.

AASU finished 18-4-1 last season and 8-1 in the PBC and returns eight starters from last season's squad that advanced to the PBC Tournament Championship Game and made its first NCAA Southeast Region berth.

For the first time, the Peach Belt has also released a preseason All-Conference team for women's soccer. Sophomore Kristin Burton, last year's PBC Freshman and Player of the Year, was named to the preseason All-PBC team, along with juniors Lyndsi Stricklen and Jamie Craine.

The Pirates begin the 2007 season on August 24th with a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Nova Southeastern in Tampa, Fla.
