College Soccer: Florida Southern 3, AASU 2
LAKELAND, Fla. (August 26) The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer team could not make up an early 3-0 deficit in its season opener, falling to Florida Southern, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in Lakeland.
The Mocs (2-0) scored three times before the 30th minute of the first half to build the 3-0 advantage, scoring goals two and three within a minute of each other.
The Pirates (0-1) got on the scoreboard in the 40th minute thanks to a penalty kick converted by junior Shana Neves. AASU accounted for the only second-half tally on freshman Kelli Bahr's header in the 87th minute off of a corner kick by Neves, but the Pirates could not come up with the tying goal in the final mintues.
AASU held the advantage in shots between the two teams, 16-13. AASU returns to action on Friday, August 31, as the Pirates visit Erskine for a 5:00 p.m. matchup.
