College Soccer: AASU 4, Presbyterian 3

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Pirates scored three goals in six minutes to give Armstrong Atlantic State University a home-opening 4-3 win over Presbyterian College Friday afternoon at Cingular Field.

With the Pirates trailing in the second half, 3-1, sophomore Lyndsi Stricklen buried a pass from sophomore Jamie Craine early in the 54th minute. Just 20 seconds later, freshman Amaka Ofuani charted a goal late in the 54th minute off a through ball by senior Donna Cheyne to tie the match. Freshman Kristin Burton buried her second goal of the afternoon into the back of the net off a long ball, sent in by freshman Kayley Ralton in 60th minute to put the Pirates ahead for good.

Burton started the scoring by breaking in on a one-on-one to tally a goal in the 21st minute. Presbyterian’s Christy Howard answered back in the 33rd minute to tie the score, 1-1, then the Blue Hose - opening their 2006 season against the Pirates - added goals by Claire Joyce and Millie Greene to take a 3-1 lead in the 51st minute.

The Pirates outshot the Blue Hose, 25-14, and freshman Samantha Held made four saves in net to pick up the win for AASU.

Presbyterian opens their home stand on September 3, against East Stroudsburg. AASU is next on the road at Erskine on Monday, September 4.
