SALISBURY, N.C. – Armstrong Atlantic got an early goal from Kristin Burton (Ocala, FL) and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over 20th-ranked Catawba in women’s soccer action on Tuesday night at Frock Field. The Pirates improve to 5-1 with the win, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-1.

The win is the first for AASU in its brief history over a ranked club, and it was also the Pirates' third consecutive shutout, another program first. The Pirates are in their second season of varsity competition.

Burton dribbled down the left side on a breakaway in the 11th minute and beat Catawba keeper Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC) to the near post. Samantha Held (Green Cove Springs, FL) made the goal stand up turning back three of Catawba’s eight shots to register the shutout.

The Pirates held a 23-8 edge in shots. Blake had nine saves for Catawba, including a diving stop off a free kick just outside the box in the closing minutes of the first half.
