College Soccer: AASU 3, No. 4 Carson-Newman 1

COLUMBUS, Ga. (September 7) – Sophomore All-American Kristin Burton recorded a hat-trick in the first 18 minutes of play for Armstrong Atlantic State, leading the Pirates to a 3- 1 win over No. 4-ranked Carson- Newman in the CSU Classic.

Burton took a long feed from Kayley Ralton to put AASU on the board in the game's ninth minute. Her boot beat keeper Nyssa Griffin to make it 1- 0. She got her second goal six minutes later, finding herself alone one- on- one with Griffin. She beat the Eagles keeper with a nice curling crossing shot to the upper right corner for a 2- 0 lead just into the 16th minute.

The reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year completed her hat- trick with exactly 27 minutes left in the half as she took a nice pass from Jaime Crane for a 3- 0 lead.

Carson- Newman came out as the agressor in the second half, peppering AASU keeper Tarra Kohler with 13 shots, but only one of those found the net. Claire Ramsdale got the goal off a pass from Brittany Moore in the 80th minute.

For the game, the Eagles out- shot AASU 21- 10. Kohler collected seven saves on the evening. Griffin faced 10 shots with three saves. The win represents the highest ranked opponent that the Pirates have beaten since beginning the women's soccer program in 2005.

AASU will face Catawba at 11 AM on Sunday to complete its weekend visit to Columbus, while Carson- Newman will face host Columbus State at 1:30 PM.
