GREENWOOD, S.C. Armstrong
Atlantic State University got goals from six different players to
defeat Lander 6-0 Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference
women's soccer match.
The Pirates improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC. Lander
dropped to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
Armstrong dominated the second half, outscoring the Lady Bearcats
5-0 and out-shooting them 19-5. The Pirates led 1-0 at halftime,
out-shooting Lander in the more evenly-played half 5-3.
Sophomore midfielder Jamie Craine gave Armstrong a 1-0 lead 22:26
into the first half with a 10-yard shot to Lander goalkeeper
Rachael Hine's left. Sophomore midfielder Kristin Savoy slipped
the ball past a defender to Craine in front of the goal for the
assist.
The Pirates pushed their lead to 2-0 five minutes into the second
half when senior defender Candice Modlinski tapped the ball into
the left corner of the net off Kristin Burton's corner kick. The
ball bounced off a Lander player to Modlinski at the farthest
post from the corner kick.
Sophomore forward Shana Neves made it 3-0 at the
30:29 mark off an assist from junior midfielder Ashley Elam.
Neves took a pass from Elam just inside midfield, dribbled, and
nailed a long grounder past Hine.
Less than two minutes later, Burton scored off an assist from
Craine to make it 4-0.
Pirates freshman forward Amaka Ofuani scored the fifth goal with
15 minutes left in the game when she put in a deflection of her
own shot. Ofuani's first shot from about 30 yards out hit the
left post. Already behind the goalkeeper, Ofuani tapped in the
deflection.
Sophomore midfielder Erin Lariscy scored her first collegiate
goal with nine seconds left in the match when she booted in a
loose ball in front of the net off an assist from sophomore
midfielder Maggie Kennedy.
